2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Poor Response

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter field is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and managing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Brinkman presently holds the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in October 2024 alongside a community playtest. Initially, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
